Supporting the Curriculum at Dumfries High School
Our project team, supported by the design team, has been delivering exciting tailored sessions at Dumfries High School, designed with departmental leads to enhance curricular studies across various subjects.
Session 1 - The series kicked off with our Environmental Manager Lewis Quinn delivering a presentation on the Health & Safety at Work Act to 40 Business students. This presentation also provided an opportunity to understand more about the different roles that help bring a project to life.
It was great, the pupils got a lot out of it and made what they are learning really relevant...everyone was engrossed in what was going on! - Becky Anderson, Principal Teacher of Mathematics, Business, and Computing.
Session 2 - Delivered in partnership with project architects Ryder. This session was tailored for Geography students who found out more about site selection considerations, soil analysis and flood risk surveys, and sustainable design.
The Higher Geography class were lucky to have speakers from Morgan Sindall and Ryder Architecture visit the class. They discussed the location and site factors that are considered before embarking on a new build such as the new Dumfries High School. They also showed examples of the surveying they carry out such as soil analysis and flood risk surveys, and also how they design buildings to be as efficient and environmentally friendly as possible. Pupils were also given a chance to ask about potential careers in architecture, engineering, design and numerous other careers where their Geographical skills would be useful. - Ben McCabe, Geography Teacher
