Morgan Sindall Construction has officially opened its new regional headquarters at Exeter Science Park, strengthening its presence across the South West and creating a base for the business to grow its regional team and operations.
The opening was marked by an event on Wednesday 7 October, attended by senior figures from across the business along with clients and consultants.
The tier one contractor has taken 3,000 sq ft on the first floor of the park’s Ada Lovelace Building, with 28 staff initially based at the new office and plans to expand the team over the coming years.
The new office complements Morgan Sindall Construction's Plymouth office, which opened in 1997, and provides greater coverage across Devon, Cornwall, Somerset and North Somerset, while offering convenient access to the M5, A30 and Exeter Airport.
The firm's South West business can trace its roots back to regional contractor Stansell, founded in 1823, and today sits within Morgan Sindall Construction's Central and West business unit, the largest in the company.
Exeter Science Park is a growing hub for science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine (STEMM) organisations, supporting 750 jobs and generating more than £50 million in gross value added (GVA) each year. Its focus on innovation, research and sustainability makes it a natural fit for Morgan Sindall Construction as it continues to grow across the South West.
The construction firm already has strong links with the Science Park, having delivered several projects on the campus, including the George Parker Bidder Building.
Morgan Sindall Construction's track record in the South West includes £40 million of city centre regeneration in Plymouth, covering Armada Way, Royal Parade and Civic Square, and the £10 million Liskeard Community Hub for Cornwall Council.
In Exeter, the firm has delivered the £9 million Centre for Resilience in Environment, Water and Waste at the University of Exeter, described as the UK's first net-zero-in-operation water research facility, as well as the £13.5 million refurbishment of the university's Harrison Building and a £19 million scheme at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.
Current projects across the region include Castlebridge SEND School in Ivybridge and Swimbridge Primary School near Barnstaple for the Department for Education, Plymouth Civic Centre, and new vehicle maintenance facilities for National Grid Electricity Distribution in Exeter and Plymouth.
Graham Kingdon, Area Director for Morgan Sindall Construction in the South West, said:
Opening our new headquarters at Exeter Science Park is an exciting next step for our business in the South West. We’ve worked across the region for many years, so having a permanent base in Exeter feels like a natural progression.
The new office gives our team the space to grow while keeping us close to clients, partners and communities across Devon, Cornwall, Somerset and North Somerset. Being part of the Science Park community is also a great fit with our focus on innovation and sustainability."
Lindsay Lucas, Chief Executive Officer of Exeter Science Park, said:
We are delighted to welcome Morgan Sindall Construction to Exeter Science Park. An organisation whose vision is to be the most sought-after and sustainable business in its industry, and which uses digital and platform design capabilities, modern construction methods and innovative carbon-reduction tools, is a real asset to the Park.
Its commitment to creating inspiring places that enhance communities, alongside supporting the next generation, means Morgan Sindall Construction will make a valuable contribution to our Park community and the wider regional economy.”
